A new residence on a ridge north of Birmingham, organized around long views across the valley and a sequence of stone and oak rooms that open to screened porches.
The house sits on a south-facing slope above a small tributary of the Cahaba. Local Alabama limestone forms the primary walls and chimney masses; the roof is charcoal slate. Deep eaves and a continuous porch on the south elevation manage summer heat while capturing winter light. Inside, rift-sawn white oak paneling and book-matched Calacatta marble in the primary rooms establish a quiet material continuity with the landscape.
